Q. How does an air conditioning system work?

An A/C system is actually two units which coordinate together to provide the maximum comfort results you receive in your home. Located outside of your home, the outdoor unit contains a liquid refrigerant that is distributed over the indoor coil and removes the heat from the air. The ending result is that the air conditioner has the ability to not only cool but dehumidify the air.


Q. How is the efficiency of my A/C system measured?

The efficiency of your heating and cooling system is calculated using a ratio standard known as "SEER" or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. As established by governmental standards of the Environmental Protection Agency, the "SEER" rating of an air conditioning and heating system must meet a minimum standard of 10.0 "SEER". In order for a system to be considered "high efficient" a heating and cooling must be between the range of 12.0 - 20.0 "SEER". Q. What exactly is a heat pump?

Similar to a conventional air conditioner, except for the fact that a heat pump provides heat in the winter, during the summer months, a pump has the capability to collect the heat on the inside and expel it to the outdoors. Working best when the outdoor temperature is above freezing a heat has the potential to save between 30-60 percent on overall energy use compared to an electric furnace, a heat pump may be an effective heating alternative. Q. What can I do to ensure my system is working properly season after season?

Q. Can I repair my A/C system myself?

Typically, it is not recommended that someone who has not been trained and EPA certified attempt to repair an air conditioning and heating problem on their own. Q. What are the benefits of a digital programmable thermostat?

Aside from the fact that a programmable thermostat provides the convenience of personalized programming settings, a digital thermostat will also assist to circulate the air more evenly and also deliver a constant household comfort.


Q. Is there a difference in brand names?

Absolutely! Each manufacturer has their own unique differences. As an authorized TRANE dealer, Air Repair, Inc. is committed to the product of these two manufacturers. (If for any reason you would prefer another manufacturer, just let us know and we will glad meet your specifications) Major differences from TRANE include the fact that TRANE uses ONLY aluminum condenser coils, where others use copper tubing with aluminum fins, the result is a degration in "SEER" rating and long-term lifespan. In addition, TRANE is proud to be building their own compressors which have an extremely low failure rate, at last count less that one half of one percent came back to the factory with a problem and half of those were misdiagnosed. Bottom line, TRANE has established a distinguished reputation for superiority for many decades and have remained the leader in the HVAC industry.

Q. Will replacing my old system with a new one, lower my energy costs?

Absolutely! Especially if you consider investing in a "high efficiency system such as the XL19i series by TRANE, you will see a dramatic difference in your monthly energy cost. In addition, if you still own a system which was manufactured in the 1970's before "SEER" ratings were deregulated, then regardless of the new system we install, you will also see a huge change in your efficiency standards and comfort!


Q. How can I have a high efficient system with huge operation costs?

Most manufacturers and also ARI or the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute publish equipment efficiency ratings. Each and every one of our technicians are happy to provide these reports. It is crucial that your contractor is installing a unit that has just the right capacity to cool your home. Units with excess capacity will cycle on and off and work less efficiently, thus increasing your operating costs.
