Replace your furnace's filters at the start of the heating season,then check them monthly. When a filter becomes dirty, replace it to keep your system from overworking and wasting energy.
Use your household vacuum to remove dirt or dust from the blower compartment. A dirty blower can also affect performance and efficiency.
Areas around the furnace should be free from clutter. Using these areas for storage can be a fire hazard. They may also obstruct combustion air supply, which could cause the production of carbon monoxide gas.
Check chimney and flue pipe connections, and make sure they are free from blockages. Also, make sure they're not loose.
